WET  EXIT

HOME PAGE

What is it? Exiting the kayak or canoe after a capsize. It should be practiced before you have to deal with it involuntary. Practice releasing the spray skirt sitting in the boat on dry land. Stop reading this web page and hold your breath for 30 seconds. -----

With a friend on hand and in waist deep water with no obstacles like trees or rocks, dump the boat over.

Count to three and then with one hand on the middle of the paddle and the other hand release the spray skirt.

It is like removing a pair of pants, hold onto the paddle and coaming of the cockpit and push out of the boat. Once you are free one hand should hold onto the boat and the other should have the paddle. If you don't hold onto those two important items the current, wind, and waves and whatever made you dump over will carry those items away.
